Honors and regular high school chemistry tutoring
One-on-one tutoring for 10th and 11th graders in Honors or college-prep chemistry, $125 per hour, online or in person around Fremont. There is also a semester group class in Fremont at $75 per student, per session. The first 20-minute call is free. The focus is the small set of foundations every later unit depends on — because a student who is shaky on moles in October will be lost by February no matter how hard they work.
The three things that decide a chemistry grade
- Mole fluency. Not the definition — the reflex. Moving between mass, moles, particles and volume without stopping to think.
- Dimensional analysis as a habit. Students who track units catch their own errors. Students who do not, hand in answers in the wrong units and never notice.
- Reading a problem for what it asks. A large share of lost marks are not chemistry errors at all — they are answering a question that was not asked.
Sessions repair these first. Grades usually move a unit or two later, once the foundation stops leaking.

Where this fits in a Fremont student's schedule
Chemistry is typically taken in 10th or 11th grade at Fremont's high schools — Mission San Jose, Irvington, American, Washington and Kennedy — and the semester grade tends to be dominated by a handful of unit tests. That cuts both ways: one bad unit hurts disproportionately, but one recovered unit moves the grade disproportionately too.
One-on-one, or the semester class?
One-on-one suits a student with a specific gap to repair or a fast-approaching test. The semester group class suits a student who is coping but wants to stop being caught out — it runs weekly alongside their school course so they walk into each unit test already confident, rather than being repaired after a bad grade. It also costs considerably less per week.

My child has an A in every subject except chemistry. Why?
Chemistry is usually the first course that punishes a study method that has worked for years: read, memorise, reproduce. It demands quantitative reasoning applied to unfamiliar situations. Strong students often hit this wall around the stoichiometry unit, and it is a method problem rather than an ability problem.
Should my student take AP Chemistry next year?
The useful question is whether they are fluent — not merely passing — with moles, dimensional analysis and balancing. A student who still counts on their fingers through unit conversions will struggle in AP. A summer of foundation work often changes the answer from no to yes.
Do you help with lab reports and homework?
Sessions can cover homework and lab work, but tutoring is not a homework-answer service. The goal is that the student can do the next problem set without help.
What if the problem is the teacher, not the student?
It happens. Some chemistry courses move fast or lean heavily on self-teaching. In that case tutoring functions as the explanation the class did not provide, kept aligned to that teacher's syllabus and assessment style.
