Online chemistry tutoring
Online one-on-one chemistry tutoring with Dr. Sahota, Ph.D., is available to students anywhere in the United States at $200 per hour. Sessions run over video with a shared whiteboard, cover AP, Honors, regular and college chemistry, and every worked problem is saved so the student can review it afterwards.
How an online session runs
Before
The student sends the current assignment, last test or upcoming topic. The session is planned around it rather than improvised.
During
Shared whiteboard, both people writing. The student works problems while Dr. Sahota watches the reasoning — watching how a student gets a wrong answer is the diagnosis.
After
The whiteboard is saved and sent over, along with a short set of practice problems chosen for that student's specific gap.
Why chemistry suits online tutoring particularly well
Some subjects lose something over video. Chemistry mostly does not: it is a written subject, and a digital whiteboard reproduces written work faithfully. What online sessions add is a permanent record — a student revising in April can pull up the equilibrium session from November exactly as it was worked.
The practical arguments matter too. No travel time on either side means sessions can be scheduled tightly around a busy student's week, and a session can be moved without anyone wasting a drive.
What online tutoring is not
It is not a homework-answering chat service, and it is not on-demand. Sessions are scheduled, one-to-one, and prepared for in advance. That is the point of them.
Common questions
Is online chemistry tutoring as effective as in person?
For chemistry, yes — and in one respect it is better. Nearly all of the work is written: equations, ICE tables, worked stoichiometry. A shared digital whiteboard shows that work as clearly as paper, and the whole session can be saved and revisited, which paper cannot.
What technology does my student need?
A laptop or tablet, a stable connection, and ideally a stylus or a cheap drawing tablet so they can write rather than type equations. A phone works in a pinch but makes the whiteboard cramped.
Which time zones can you teach in?
Dr. Sahota is based in Pacific time in Fremont, California. Students on Eastern and Central time are straightforward; other zones are worth asking about.
Can parents sit in on an online session?
Yes, and for the first session it is often useful. After that, most students do better with the parent out of the room.
